Revolution

revolution-deborah-wilesMore than just a novel, Revolution is, in effect, a time machine. Deborah Wiles’ first-person narrative of Sunny, a white teen living in Greenwood, Mississippi during the 1964 Freedom Summer is beautifully written and closely follows the actual historic events. Interspersed throughout are primary documents (photos, speeches, political cartoons, news articles, song lyrics) that convey to the reader the state and national context that would also have shaped Sunny’s life. This book of historical fiction offers a strong introduction to the history of Freedom Summer in this 50thanniversary year.
